In any situation, sinks are an integral part of the interior and the main device of the bathroom. Also, this household item is included in the morning ritual of washing and brushing the teeth of most people around the planet. The washbasin is definitely associated with cleanliness, which is why it is made from appropriate materials - white ceramics. Although some lovers of the unusual can choose this personal hygiene item from a completely different, non-standard color scheme and materials.

In fact, this plumbing got its name due to its similarity with shells. This is a kind of recess with a hole for the mixer and drainage. Some models may not have holes. For such sinks, it is supposed to mount the mixer either in a cabinet or on a wall. Also, the hole becomes useless when a common rotary mixer is already installed in the bathroom.

Materials used and manufacturers

Usually are produced ceramic washstands - a universal option in all aspects, both pricing and design issues. Although in fact, there are a couple of other materials that are worth paying attention to.

Stone is a more durable material. In recent years, it has become quite popular among sanitary ware manufacturers, and the price category is quite comparable to traditional models.

Glass washbasins can be attributed to a higher price category. They are the most unusual in design. Most often they are made as overhead, that is, they require integration with a countertop or cabinet.

Types and methods of installation

According to the installation method, sinks can be divided into the following:

  • Mortise in a table-top. A type in which the washbasin is installed in a special hole in the countertop or cabinet so that the surface of the countertop overlaps the bowl of the sink. As a rule, this type does not have a hole for the mixer.

  • Cut-in under a table-top. Mounted in a similar way to the previous view, but now the edges of the bowl cover the countertop. Most models have a tap hole.

  • Overhead. Type of plumbing products that are placed on other surfaces: cabinets and countertops.

  • Suspended. These sinks are attached to the wall with nuts. Often complemented with a pedestal or semi-pedestal that hides the siphon.

It should be added that there are also corner bowls for various installations at the junction of walls.

The type of attachment does not depend on the shape of the bowl. So the choice is huge: round, oval, rectangular, square, asymmetric left or right, as well as irregularly shaped washbasins.

How to choose a sink in the bathroom?

The first thing you need to know is what size washbasin you want. The most popular models are bowls with a width of 40 to 70 centimeters. That is, the average width of a conventional washstand is 55cm. Those that are less than 40 centimeters wide are more suitable for use in public places, since at home such a sink will not be convenient to use.

Next, pay attention to depth. She also matters. Wash basins with a shallow depth tend to splash water, which can harm or spoil the mood with wet clothes. The optimal depth is considered from 30 to 60 centimeters. Here, of course, you must also take into account the height of the sink, in relation to your height.

Do not forget about the presence of overflow - a very important detail that can protect the owner from flooding. In some models, it is not available due to the shape and design of the bowl.

It is important to consider the location of the faucet in relation to the washbasin. It depends on whether you need a hole in the washbasin.
